Learn how to prepare for and respond to volcanic ashfall
🚨 Before Ashfall
- Listen to local radio or TV for updates and evacuation orders
- Prepare an emergency kit with food, water, and first aid supplies
- Stock up on dust masks and goggles
- Close all windows and doors
- Bring animals and livestock into sheltered areas
- Secure outdoor furniture and objects
⚠️ During Ashfall
- Stay indoors and keep windows and doors closed
- Use damp cloths to seal gaps under doors and windows
- Wear dust masks, goggles, and protective clothing if you must go outside
- Avoid driving unless absolutely necessary
- Cover water tanks and seal them to prevent ash contamination
- Disconnect roof downpipes and cover water tanks
- Do not use contact lenses
✅ After Ashfall
- Wait for official clearance before going outside
- Wear protective clothing when cleaning up ash
- Dampen ash before sweeping to avoid inhalation
- Check your roof for excessive ash weight - remove carefully
- Do not use water to wash ash down drains
- Seek medical attention if you have breathing difficulties
- Check on vulnerable neighbors and relatives

- Volcanic ash can cause respiratory problems - use masks
- Protect your eyes from ash particles
- Keep skin covered to avoid irritation
- Drink clean, bottled water
- Wash ash from skin and hair as soon as possible
- Seek medical help if you experience difficulty breathing
